Chrome plating on aluminum for wear resistance

We are manufacturing ABACUS for teaching purpose. Presently we are using chrome plated steel tubes as the guide rods over which beads are moving. The chrome plating is mostly for esthetics appearance. Being a steel tube, it makes the instrument weigh more and handling becomes difficult. Since Aluminum can be used for replacement except for the problem of low wear resistance leading to scratches on the surface, we require your help in knowing how to chrome plate aluminum to make it more wear resistance. Pl reply.

Dear Mr Arulanandan,

It is easily possible to plate Cr on Al. You have to zincate, copper plate, nickel plate then chrome plate.
