Nitric acid passivation
2003
Does anyone know how much nitric acid, type VII you would need to passivate a 900 gallon stainless steel wash tank? I've been told to use nitric 3, Type VII, between 120-150F for a minimum of 20 minutes, is this correct?
What vendors would you suggest?
Thanks,

Type VII in the old (canceled)
QQ-P-35C (canceled) [link is to free spec at Defense Logistics Agency, dla.mil] requires 20-25% by volume of nitric acid, which would mean 180-225 gallons of conc. nitric acid. You can buy this from most chemical warehouses in your area. It is, VERY hazardous.
You can get BETTER results with citric acid formulations that are available and safe to use. Contact us if you need help.
