Bonding poly(propylene) to aluminium

I am looking for a way to bond poly(propylene) to Aluminium. The system must be able to survive 130 degrees for 45 minutes in a steam steriliser. It has been said that it may be necessary to pre-treat the poly(propylene). Could you suggest the best way to do this? Also, would you have any suggestions of a suitable adhesive that would withstand the sterilisation conditions?

Thank you,

Ruth,

You didn't indicate if the 130 degrees was F or C ... and if the latter, oh dear!

There are methods, which I am personally not acquainted with, of bonding to PP.

However, I'd feel much happier if you had a mechanical rather than a cemented bond ... as as PP has a very high coeff. of thermal expansion, this might be route to go.

Rohm & Hass has a epoxy based adhesive with finely dispersed polypropylene beads in it. We use it to bond polypropylene laminates to various metal substrates with great success.
