Masking off Zinc Plating

Can some one tell me what medium to use to prevent zinc buildup on a shaft. We plate our shafts but have problems with the buildup of zinc on bearing or sprocket surfaces. We would like to mask these surfaces so no zinc is applied on these areas of the shaft. What do we use for this purpose?

Thanks,

If you are electroplating, temperature is not an issue. Then any plastisol or platers tape (vinyl, PVC, etc. with or w/o adhesive is OK). If you are galvanizing (hot dip) then you need high temperature paint or metal tape.

I am not sure about the pieces you are talking about, but one common way of masking in the jewelry line is Paraffin wax. This proccess is only good if you are not talking about high temps. But if you are dealing with a tempurture issue there is a paint that could withstand the heat and can be removed after the plating is done.

If it is Zinc Coating, normal LDPE with coating is available.
