Gaseous vs. Salt Bath Nitrocarburizing

(1998)

Q. Is there a significant difference between salt bath nitrocarburizing and gaseous nitrocarburizing in terms of the resulting finish, both in abrasion and corrosion resistance?

Thank You.

A. Greetings, Benge and Emanoel Ribeiro de Almeida: Suggest you see "ASM Metals Handbook Vol. 4 "Heat Treating" [link is to info about book at Amazon]. There are numerous end-notes at the end of the chapters.

Also, you should contact, Mr. Dale Poteet, the godfather of nitrocarburizing or Kolene. Good Luck Gentlemen, Sam.
