Erosion-corrosion protection

Q. Dear Sir, Any idea how can I protect internal aluminium-bronze (AB2) valve parts against erosion-corrosion effect under high velocity water? Is internal cathodic protection possible? Thanks in advance,

? Mr. Izhar Bahir,

Are the valve components subject to friction from objects other than the water? What is the CPM rate? I may know of a protective coating that may assist in solving your problem.

Q. In the Erosion/ Corrosion research center of the University of Tulsa, we are planning to study the erosion behavior of valves in different flow conditions and multiphase flow. We are looking for input from valve manufacturers, valve users and anyone having experience with erosion problem with valves.

A. Dear Quamrul and Readers:
We have all the room in the world for any Q&A, data, tables, graphs, pictures, etc. anyone wishes to supply, and we will be happy to post it all here! That way it will be available not just to the University for their studies, but to the readers who have found the subject here and become interested in it.
Luck & Regards,

A. We have been able to achieve a considerable decrease in erosion on bronze propellers used in boats by cryogenic processing. Part of the damage these props see is due to cavitation, the rest is do to an increase in abrasion resistance. The advantage of cryogenics over a coating is that cryogenics affects the entire volume of the part where a coating becomes useless once it has been worn away.

Q. We have had various problems with Erosion on valve seats from different manufactures when using Aluminium Bronze (AB2) Especially when controlling at high velocities on valve closure. Do you have any information on this subject or has anybody done any conclusive testing? My main application is on linear Hydraulic control valves in the water industry.
