Rectifier Selection

2002

Dear Sir,

For silver plating is pulse rectifier superior than standard ripple-free rectifier. Why?

Hello, Amit.

If everything else about the process is understood, controlled, and optimized . . . then yes, pulse rectifiers can be an improvement. They allow additional agitation and an additional control aspect, letting you (to some extent) get some control over boundary layer phenomena by attracting and repelling the atoms of depositing metal.

But for many shops they represent only one more untamed variable in the list. If you are producing virtually 100 percent good parts day in and day out then it's time to consider pulse rectifiers. If you're not, then you're not ready.
