Aging hardware/hinges

My husband and I make rustic furniture and are not happy with the look of the hardware that you typically get @ home improvement stores. We haven't had any luck in finding home salvage yards to find aged (not antique) hinges and knobs. Any ideas where to look or how to age our own hardware? I appreciate any advice. Thank you!
