Passivation of 306SS

2002

Hello everyone,

I am looking for some help here. I was wondering if Passivation on 306 SS can leave a blackish film (like oxidized metals). Plus, if it can leave a matte finish, thats even better, but it has to be a black film. The life of the film should also be an important aspect to be looked into.

I would appreciate it very much if you could share your knowledge of passivation.

Well the first question would be what type of passivation are you talking about, typically in my experience passivation on a 306 stainless part is a cleaning process, but there are several forms of passivating out there, I would need more specifics, all of our passivates that Stainless would go into are meant for a final clean on parts prior to inspection and packaging, so if you can give more detail, maybe I could help more. I don't understand how you would get a black film on stainless parts, something doesn't sound right.
