Finishing Lead Castings
I am working with cast lead, (97% lead 3% antimony). I wish to develop a finish that is similar in color and texture to the natural patina that forms over time, which is a silvery grey lead sulphate. Cold black oxidizing works to some extent but is generally too dark even if it is time controlled and it leaves a somewhat smutty finish. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
