Zinc-Nickel Plating

i am looking for information on zinc-nickel plating per AMS2417e.
I would like to start plating on 6061 alum.

I received your inquiry in my office. I will be returning to my office on Tuesday May 19th, and will call you by phone. Most all of your questions will be answered. Please remember that the zinc/nickel alloy was created to forestall corrosion on steel. Some people have used zinc/nickel on aluminum and achieved in the area of 5000 plus hours to corrosion of aluminum. We still get the question of hours to red rust on aluminum, almost weekly.

For aluminum substrate, I do not think anyone can expect red rust to be observed because the corrosion products of aluminum alloys are pricipally hydrated aluminum oxide or aluminum hydroxide which is white stuff. Red rust as a corrosion indication is basically applicable to steels or coated steels including stainless steels. Red rust appears because the corrosion products of these materials mainly consist of red brown iron oxide (Fe2O3).
