I am looking for information about "Anodizing Zirconium".

What technical journals are available that can be recommended to learn about Anodizing Zirconium.

Hi, Joe. U.S. Patent 3864220 speaks of anodizing in 1 percent phosphoric acid at 25 volts. Hobbyists on several forums say that it can be done very similarly to decorative anodizing of titanium, and indeed 1 percent phosphoric at 25 volts sounds like it would work for titanium :-)

An article in J.E.C.S. (India), vol. 38, 1989 by Padmavathy, Kalyani, and Sastry is entitled "Rate of Formation of Anodic Film on Zirconium in Phosphoric Acid & Its Sodium salts". Although I don't have a copy, it sounds like it further supports phosphoric acid as an electrolyte. Metal Finishing Information Service in England could presumably do a literature search for you and provide copies of articles.

I understand that zirconium can also be anodized in molten salts, but that doesn't sound like what you're looking for. Good luck.
