Stainless Steel Elevator Door Refinishing

Q. I am the Property Manager of a high rise apartment building in downtown Portland, Oregon. I have elevator doors in my building that are stainless steel. They have scraps and wear marks on them from opening/closing over the years. Do you have any suggestions on how to refinish them and prevent this from happening in the future?

Ed. note: See letter 13369. Finishing.com also has a FAQ on "Repairing scratches in stainless steel refrigerator doors" which may be helpful.

Q. How can I restore brushed stainless elevator doors to remove scratches & or corrosion?

A. To refinish stainless steel panels on elevators you will have to call an architectural refinishing metal company in your area.
