Improve Current Efficiency

I am having low current efficiency in acid Zinc plating. Do you know of any inhibitor to reduce Hydrogen evolution rate?

Sam Mohanta

You should be using an oil free source of air agitation with the spargers placed under the work being plated. You really don't state the problem.

Bill Hemp

Low efficiency in acid zinc plating process means that you must do something wrong. Did you make sure that you follow all the recommended operating conditions like, PH, zinc and chloride concentration, temp etc? Hexavalent chromium contamination can also reduce efficiency. How about your brighteners, are they balanced? If you cannot solve it on your own, submit a sample to your supplier, he is bound to trace your problem.

Following parameters are vital for impoved current efficiency: reduced contamination, optimum contents, temperature, c.d , adequate anode area and right brightener concentrations.
