Grey anodizing on 7075

Why dull grey anodizing on some 7075 parts? Two lots of small shafts, both confirmed to be 7075 aluminum. Surface finish is identical on both lots. 40 percent of one lot come out dull grey, the other lot is 'bright'. Parts done back to back in new bath. Microstructure of the 'grey' parts suggests different heat treatment. Specification calls for T6 temper. Attempting to confirm temper condition now. Would annealed or overaged structure account for the 'grey' color?

How did that temper confirmation test turn out?
