Can aluminum pipe be chrome plated?

Just a quick question from someone who knows nothing about plating. Is it possible to chrome plate aluminum pipe? If so, roughly how much can I expect to pay for this. The pipes are 8' long and 2" diameter. Thanks very much for your help.

Hi, A.G.

If you are talking about chrome plating of the exterior of the pipe it would be no particular problem; you just need to find a shop which does plating on aluminum (it requires different pretreatment than steel) and which has tanks big enough to handle 8 foot long sections. If you want the interiors chrome plated, it is not impossible but it is impractical unless it something really special for an important aerospace program, or other application where money isn't tight. :-).

Good luck with it.
