-----Properties of A304 Stainless Steel
What are the physical/mechanical properties of A304 Stainless Steel?
Thomas D. KolboStrucutral Engineers, P.C. - Marshalltown, Iowa
Hello Thomas!
Well, there's the type 304 stainless steel, essentially 18-8 (18% chromium 8% nickel) which has usually 30 ksi yield strength and 70 ksi ultimate strength. If that's the alloy you refer to, a lot more information can be found at www.matweb.com (it only looks user-hostile) and at the Nickel Development Institute, www.nidi.org, in the publications section. Titles which discuss "Austenitic" stainless steels will apply.
If you're referring to ASTM A304, that ain't stainless. Those are alloy steels with specified hardenability. So I figure it's the 18-8 you're asking about, although the "A" confused me.
Good luck!
