A. Hi Rod. Very briefly, aluminum anodizing usually consists of the following steps, with rinsing in between: alkaline cleaning, etching (for matte surface), de-smutting (to remove copper, silicon, and other contaminants from the surface), anodizing (to build a hard honeycomb structure), silkscreening and/or dyeing to fill those pores with ink or dye, sealing (to lock in the ink and/or dye).
We have an “Intro to Anodizing” on line here which I think will offer you a good start towards understanding the process.
