Making cotton rolls conductive

1998

Q. We are looking for a method to coat a cotton material with a conductive coating that does not use a carbon based material, because it will turn the cotton black. Ideally it would be a clear coating that would be electrically conductive when dry.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions?

Thank You,

Rudy Allison

A. Comments on Rudy Allison's letter above: If you start out with a cloth roll, and large quantities of it, and if there is no other economical method in chemical plating, you may consider roll-to-roll vacuum coating or, as they call it, web-coating.

A. What is the end goal of the coating system you describe? Is the gold the end goal or is it just decorative? I have worked with companies that coat gold directly on polymers, mainly through PVD methods.
