Converting a degreasing bath from cyanide to non-cyanide

1997

Q. 1. What do I have to take into consideration to change our degreasing bath containing cyanide for a non-cyanide one when Ni and Cr plating? Do I have to change the oil-based polishing pastes?

2. Also, if reprocessing is done, when should be the stripping of the Ni and Cr of the pieces? Before polishing, After polishing?

Thanks very much for you help, I appreciate it a lot.

A. If you are using cyanide in an alkaline cleaning solution, you should be able to find a suitable proprietary cleaning formulation that does not use cyanide. See the suppliers under finishing.com directory listings.

I would strip chromium before polishing, but you might be able to replate over the nickel if you have a Woods nickel strike.

Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
