Sealing copper cupboard fronts

Some clearcoating solutions (adv.)    g j nikolas banner   everbrite banner

(1999)

Please advise me how to seal new punched copper cupboard door fronts we have just designed. We want to maintain the new copper color. Can we use Tung Oil [linked by editor to product info at Amazon] or varnish or polyurethane? thanks

Marline Johnson

There are a lot of things you can use, none of which will be perfect, Marline. Copper tarnishes, and some people say the thing to do is to learn to love copper the ways it lives, not the way it looks for a few minutes after polishing :-)

But we do have a good number of threads on line here describing the partial successes -- letters 161, 4536, 31614 being particularly applicable. G.J. Nikolas offers brass lacquers for the purpose, and others offer silicate top coats. Good luck.
