Deburring of stainless steel strips

(1995)

We need to deburr one or both edges of stainless steel strip. 302S-25 hard rolled. The strip is two thou thick, 1/2 inch wide and would be in lengths of 1500 ft. The edge needs to have a radius of 1 thou, i.e., perfectly rounded and be spotlessly clean and uniform throughout the entire length..Do you know of a process that would perform this operation. Would it be possible to round just one edge and still maintain flatness so that the material could be tightly re-wound onto a reel of 4 inch starting diameter without falling off? We need to process about 100 reels per year.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi, Richard. In as much as you anticipate significant difficulty from several different directions, my question would be whether the strip truly needs to be stainless steel, or whether pure nickel or nickel-cobalt might be an acceptable substitute? Because it could probably be readily electroformed into a strip like this, which would already be 'spotlessly clean', 'perfectly rounded' on 'just one edge' and could probably be quite perfect without need for additional deburring, smoothing, or radiusing operations. Good luck.
