Non-cyanide copper plating
I am interested to do copper plating. I was looking for a chemical that is non cyanide in nature. I wanted to plate copper over steel metal sheet of about 3 X 3 ft square. Let me know whether any copper compound can be used.Wong Chiong Hung
Give a call to EPI (Electrochemical Products Inc.) [a finishing.com supporting advertiser] of New Berlin Wisconsin. They have a very nice non-cyanide alkaline copper process that plates on steel and other substrates. Very easy to run and control.
Good luck, PlaterB

Hi, Wong. Such plating solutions are based on copper pyrophosphate as far as I know. Berl recommends EPI; other suppliers who support this site include Gold Touch and Zinex.
I am not sure if it is practical to formulate your own plating solution based on copper pyrophosphate or whether the proprietary addition agents are too complex, but the Metal Finishing Guidebook should give you a good start, and letter 23473 will give you an old formula.
