Getting into the plating business

Hello, I am very interested in getting into the plating business, but I can find no information on the information highway on how to get started or even just try my own garage experiments. I would greatly appreciate any information you could share with me. Thank you, Mike Wolf

Hello Mike,

Plating was America's very first categorically regulated industry, with environmental discharge standards established since 1974. It might be a poor field to try to learn about by starting with garage experiments.

If your life situation fits, getting a job for a summer in a plating shop would give you genuine hands-on understanding of what it's about. I would encourage you to attend a local American Electroplaters and Surface Finishers meeting; there are dozens of branches around the country, and visitors are always very welcome. There you will get a flavor of what the industry is about, and have the opportunity to learn about the available resources.

Hi

I am from Sri Lanka but now working in Saudi Arabia. when I was in Sri Lanka my grandfather was doing electroplating works, but unluckily he went from us from this world before I learn that because I was small. Now I am really interested in electro plating. I want to learn about that and I want to start an industry for electro plating.

Please help me for that and please give me information about how to start.

Hi, M.R. Please see our FAQ: How to Get Started. Also, please check the "must-have" book list, as these books will contain most of the instructions you will need.

But there is just no substitute for being taught. If a summer job fits into your life at this point, that would be a great way to get a quick understanding of this industrial science. Good luck.

Regards,
