Corrosion resistance of trivalent chrome plating vs. hexavalent chromium

(1996)

I am looking for information along with opinions form other platers regarding the corrosion values of trivalent chrome versus hexavalent chrome. I am specifically interested in why the auto industry is not allowing trichrome on exterior parts, bumpers, etc.

You might inquire of the suppliers of tri-chrome to see what they have to say on the corrosion issue, Paul. Two of the major ones are Atotech and Macdermid. I don't think it's a matter of corrosion resistance, but not as good color.

It's been awhile, but at last look, the finish just isn't there, hex leaves a blue bright finish, tri is not as brilliant (lustrous) finish
