GUESTBOOK, Class of 1973

Family of OLAS graduates

Oct 9, 2002

All my brothers and sisters graduated from Our Lady of All Souls. Michael Bernal-Silva 1965, Rick Bernal-Silva 1967, Christine Bernal-Silva 1968, Marie Bernal-Silva 1969, and Anita Bernal-Silva 1970. My parents still live on Leslie Street and refuse to move. All my siblings have remained in New Jersey and are doing well.

I went on to graduate from Seton Hall Prep, Pace University and finally Rutgers Law School in Newark. From East Orange I moved to Bloomfield, Nutley and finally Succasunna. Am no longer practicing Law and am quite happy about that.

I would love to here from fellow classmates.

I attended OLAS from 1965 to 67, so I would have been class of 73 if I stayed. This is so silly - fear of having Sr. Theresa ,who my brother Richard & friends (Bernal-Silva included :}) tormented, led me to beg my mom to put me in public school. Alas, I believe I would have had a better education at OLAS.

I was a cantor at OLAS church during the year that the church closed - a very sad time 1993. I also participated in the so called 'study' that the Newark Archdiocese performed to examine the churches they would close in East Orange. The Baptist congregation that occupies it now is doing well and keeping the church beautiful. They often light up the back window (of Our Lady - remember?). Wouldn't it have been nice for the remaining long-time parishioners to be able to share their beautiful church instead of leaving?

Regarding OLAS school, One vivid memory is principal Sr. Maureen Xavior hitting my backside on my first day of kindergarten because I was crying & wanted to stay with my sister Angela.

I fondly recall friends: Margaret Decker, Silvas, Cathy Callagean, Charles LaRussa, Joanne White, Hoffman, Luke the redhead.....

I attended OLAS only in eighth grade. I transferred from Columbian School (across the street). The transitions wasn't pretty.

I made a few friends but my experiences generally weren't that great. Alas, the experience did make me a stronger person. I remember David Bernal-Silva who lived down a little ways from my home on First Ave. I also remember Margaret Decker, Cathy Callagean, Patricia Walsh, and my one and only "compadre" and fellow Latino guy whom I called by his last name Echevarria. I guess OLAS wasn't ready for a Cuban and an Argentine!

I moved to Rochester, NY where I attended high school, and college (SUNY Brockport) and became a teacher. I am now currently residing in a small town near Tulsa, Oklahoma. Teaching Spanish at a public middle school called Thoreau Demonstration Academy.

Love to hear from some of my classmates!

May the blessing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ be with you all!

I thought the earth was flat and we all fell off the edges! That would be what I learned after being transferred to the South after Sr. Ann Williams's class.

At OLAS I announced that I wanted to live in Texas. I made the move after College, and met and married a great guy from South Plainfield. He just transferred us to Arizona.

Margee, Patty, where is Darryl Reilly, Annmarie Stampe, Ted D'Acunti? I found Cathy right after her wedding. (How can we lose Kalaydjian in the phone book?) I have reel to reel audio tapes of (you know who's) fifth grade class and choir. Michael Ostroski taped the choir for us. I snagged the tapes when our teacher was moving back to Scotland. I'd really love to hear from ya'll. Please Email Today.

Hello Class of 1973! I just found out about this website from my sister, Valerie, who graduated in 1972. Wow...very surprised and happy to read some of the messages and hear how some of the class is doing. I often wonder how life has treated everyone.

After a stint working overseas for a number of years, I married a young lady from Germany and we are raising three girls. We live now in Michigan and were back for a visit to East Orange to see my Dad. Since it's been a couple of years, we actually drove our kids back to OLAS and showed them the playgroung where the racing and football was played and where some of our small battles were held. What a fun time.

Look forward to hearing from some of you. Take care...
