TED MOONEY, P.E.


Ted Mooney is a graduate of New Jersey Institute of Technology, holds a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, and is registered as a Professional Engineer in New Jersey, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

Ted is an active member of the American Electroplaters and Surface Finishers Society, and the recipient of the organization's prestigious Industrial Achievement Award for 2003. He is a certified AESF Instructor, and served on the Enercon Committee and Nominating Committee. For many years he wrote the monthly columns 'Fully Equipped' and 'Computer Topics' for Plating & Surface Finishing magazine. On the local level Ted served as Educational Chairman and President of the Garden State (NJ) Branch, and editor of the branch newsletter, Sparks; he is presently Secretary of the Philadelphia branch.

Mr. Mooney lectured at the Garden State Branch AESF course on 'Practical Electroplating' for 10 years, and has been a featured speaker at the University of Wisconsin's seminars on 'Improved Process Control in Metal Finishing'. He has conducted training courses in 'Electroplating and Metal Finishing' for ASM International, in Singapore and in America's most advanced military and industrial facilities. He also served as an instructor in computer topics for TransNet Corporation. He has addressed local and regional meetings of the AESF, NAMF, CCAI, and MFSA, served as an expert witness on metal finishing in several law cases, and published numerous articles in Products Finishing and Metal Finishing magazine, and the "Metal Finishing Guidebook". He wrote the MFSA 'Safety Tips' booklet. Ted is the author of the 'Electroplated Coatings' chapter in the new edition of ASM's "Corrosion Handbook".

Ted is president of Finishing.com, Inc., which operates the world's most popular metal finishing site.

Ted began his career with five years of service as a Design Engineer for the H-VW-M division of M&T Chemicals, Matawan, NJ; in this capacity he designed over 50 major plating and processing lines and pollution control systems. Later, he was employed as a Project Engineer with Lancy Laboratories, Warrendale, PA where he designed wastewater treatment systems for metal finishing. He served more than five years as Chief Engineer of the Equipment Division of The Harshaw Chemical Co., Cleveland, OH, in which capacity he was responsible for all of the division's design and development programs, project engineering, and field service. Immediately before founding Finishing Technology, Ted was a Management Consultant with Booz-Allen & Hamilton, Cleveland, OH.

At Finishing Technology, Ted has designed plating and anodizing shops, automation equipment, and pollution control systems for dozens of plating shops, and guided clients through to solutions to numerous finishing problems.
