-----Information on Finishes to my Technology Project
2001
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am at the moment half way through a project at school to make a stand for my MX bike and I am needing help to choose a finish for my product. I would be most grateful if someone would be kind enough to send me some information about some appropriate finishes.
I hope to hear from you soon so that I can complete my project to the highest standard.
Thank you - yours sincerely,
Mark Wyatt- Petersfield, Hampshire, England

Is your MX bike a more appropriate or less appropriate means of transportation than an elevator? Is an MX more appropriate or less appropriate than traveling by ocean liner? Is it more or less appropriate than traveling by bus? Hopefully, you see the point. Appropriate is as appropriate does.
What material is the stand made of? What kind of corrosion resistance do you think it needs, what kind of abrasion resistance, what will it be cleaned with (detergent, kitchen cleaner, steel wool)? Used indoors (in a garage) or out? How important are aesthetics, do you want it to almost camouflage itself or to stand out? Does it matter if it fades in sunlight after a year or so? Are there any moving parts on the stand that might gall and snag against each other, or where the thickness of paint would ruin the clearances?
If you can carefully define your problem, I think people can try to help. If you just need literature to include with your project, go to your hardware or paint store and pick up some paint chips and flyers :-)
Good luck.

Mark if an MX bike has something to do with motocross, it should not have a stand. X means motocross of some kind. If it is for transportation, you don't want it to get bent, use a piece of stainless steel, polished if you want a bright look.
