Lab Testing Procedures for Brass Solutions

My factory is about to commence on brass plating in barrels. However, we have yet to acquire information on the procedure for lab testing of the solution's content, in particular ammonia on eBay or Amazon [affil link] content, cyanide content. Besides the above two components, are there any other components which we have to control in order to maintain a consistent color?

Information provided on the above will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

First of two simultaneous responses--

Yes. Must analyze for zinc, copper and check pH as well as temperature. Whomever is selling you the chemistry should supply you with guidelines to control the bath. Hopefully you have someone more knowledgeable than the equipment manufacturer. Who designed the line? Must have cleaning as well as post plate rinsing, maybe a lacquer final coat?

Second of two simultaneous responses--

You need to acquire a copy of "The Chemical Analysis of Electroplating Solutions".

As well as testing for zinc and copper content you should also be aware of where the cyanide(total and free) level is at in relation to zinc/copper. Also you must have a certain amount of sodium carbonate on eBay or Amazon] in the solution (probably at least 3-4 oz/gal.). I have also found that temperature, amps/sq.ft. and ratio of zinc to copper will greatly affect the end colour of the brass. Hope this helps?
