-----Science Project Coins
I am in the fifth grade and I have to do a project on what happens when coins are in vinegar ⇦ in bulk on eBay or Amazon [affil link] and water. I've been observing for two weeks and I haven't seen any changes yet. Please Help! Will anything happen?
Thanks,
Quan

Uh..., Quan..., did the teacher neglect to tell you to put several different kinds of coins into the same jar? Or maybe she forgot to tell you to include some new pennies in the mix?
Vinegar is an acid, and it might or might not cause an individual coin to corrode. But if you put copper coins in with some nickel coins I think you'll see a copper coating start to form on the nickel coins.
And I think the vinegar will attack modern pennies which have a zinc core and a copper skin.
