Stripping nickel off aluminum is not as much the concern as is the use of the chemicals to strip it off the aluminum.

Most shops will use 50% Bv nitric acid at room temp.

It works on electroplated nickel to high phos nickel; High phos being more corrosion resistant takes longer.

Dimensionally there is little if any material removed.

Nitric is nasty stuff. caution is advised when using this chemical. when you get it on exposed skin, the skin turns yellow. If you plan to do this yourself read the MSDS and follow the guidelines.

One other caution: overloading solution with lots of surface area does cause violent exothermic reactions. You are best advised to let the pros handle this for you.

Sorry! Finishing.com is temporarily Read-Only.
Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
