Blisters after bake

When doing a high temperature post plating bake, what is the actual mechanism that causes the blister to form? I know there are several reasons that can contribute to an unbond that would result in a blister. What I'm asking is, what mechanically is going on that causes the blister to take the form that it does.

Although there is a lot of reasons for a separation of plated deposit from the base Material (in multiple layer plating the previous layer is the substrate of the next layer to be plated), is that different materials during heating and cooling expand or contract at different degrees, so therefore if there is no bond, the blister will form.

Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
