-----Renewing aluminum look
I am a member of a small fire department in northern NH. We built a 3000 gal tanker with a 15 year old aluminum tank. we would like to put the tank back to newer looking. It has small pit marks but they are not deep.
Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish and other polishing products are not working. We also have aluminum diamond plate that needs polishing.
Thanks for any help.

Aluminum is one of the more difficult metal to get a good mirror finish on and it is easily messed up. It sounds like it is a pretty good sized job. I assume you are using power buffing tools. If you are not, you should. The marks you mentioned, while not looking like a problem may well be. It probably means that you need to remove and/or blend surface finish with a mild cutting/polishing rough. I suggest you use alum oxide, which can be in bar or liquid form and looks white. Try that before we try anything else.

Sorry! Finishing.com is temporarily Read-Only.
Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
