Letter 6027 Renewing aluminum look. I am a member of a small fire dept in northern NH. We built a 3000gal tanker with a 15 year old aluminum tank. we would like to put thetank back to newer looking. It has small pit marks but they are notdeep. Mother's Aluminum Polish [link is to product info at Amazon] and other polishing products are not working. we alsohave aluminum diamond plate that needs polishing. Thanks for any help. Kev Staines
Aluminum is one of the more difficult metal to get a good mirrorfinish on and it is easily messed up.It sounds like it is a prettygood sized job. I assume you are using power buffing tools. If youare not, you should. The marks you mentioned, while not looking likea problem may well be. It probably means that you need to removeand/or blend surface finish with a mild cutting/polishing rough. Isuggest you use alum oxide, which can be in bar or liquid form andlooks white. Try that before we try anything else.
