Need black chrome plating services by a production shop

RFQ. Since about 1990 we have been making short production runs (tens to hundreds of pieces) of steel, brass and stainless parts that we need black chrome plated. Parts are tubes and fittings, 1/2" to 3" in diameter and 1/2" to about 8" long. Cosmetic appearance and scratch resistance are the most important aspects. Parts are machined locally, and we do deburring, bead blasting and inspection in house and send the parts out, typically nickel strike, then black chrome for a uniform matte black finish. We do final oil/wax treatment here when the product is assembled. We're in northern California and have gone through several job shops over the years. The last two that were nearby did mostly did gun parts and produced consistent quality, but stopped doing black chrome for environmental reasons. Now we are using a shop in the midwest that has become uneven in quality so we're looking for a new vendor. Evenness of color and coverage into holes and bores in the parts are important. We have extensive experience and don't expect anything undoable, but we need consistent results. Quality is much more important than price. Platers achieving good results with matte black chrome please let us know.

Ed. note: This RFQ is outdated, but technical replies are welcome, and readers are encouraged to post their own RFQs. But no public commercial suggestions please ( huh? why?).

Sorry! Finishing.com is temporarily Read-Only.
Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
