Brass plating is wrong shade

October 22, 2011

It is the first time I use cyanide brass plating for my job. The work comes out to be pale yellow instead of rich gold colour that I obtain from gold flash plating. The work is fully bright from nickel plating bath before brass plating. Can anyone suggest any organic brighteners that can boost the rich gold colour?

Shade of color is normally controlled by the alloy percentages. This is normally by the solution or the solution/anode material.
Temperature of the solution can make a small change,
Colored lacquer is another way of changing the color.

Lee,
The concentration of cyanide salts and its ratio may not be optimum. Share the electrolyte and electrode data, you might get more appropriate help.
