before painting we are blasting the coaches with steel shots. now we

October 9, 2009 I do not think you want to use steel to blast SS. If you do, you are aware that in time it will appear as if the SS will develop rust spots from CS shot. You can use a number of other materials; however, your surface appearance will also change. Probably the closest you can come to the finish you are getting now, other than SS shot would be with glass bead media.
October 13, 2009 Any non-ferrous shot material is fine for blasting stainless and will of course work for the carbon steel as well. However, you do not want to use the shot on carbon steel and then use that same shot on stainless. Keep your shot segregated between that used for your carbon steel and that used for your stainless steel.
