Restore welded stainless plate

September 29, 2009

Hi
We are a company in Sweden that works with stainless steel and we have a problem.
After we welded together two sheets grinded stainless sheets grit 220 we need to grind down weld and restore welded area so it blends in with grinded area. Because sheets are big we don't want to grind and polish whole sheets with scotchbrite. Today we use a linear grinding machine PTX 300 from Eisenblaetter but it takes too long time.

Hope You can help us with this problem

Long is a relative term. Reworking/ blending in welds is probably one of the most difficult aspect of surface finishing and there aren't many short cuts other than automation. There are some chemical processes that can be used to restore a uniform surface, but it won't blend in uneven surfaces.
