Easy way to clean the sulphate coating off the lead cathode?

May 9, 2009

I'm searching for an easy way to clean the sulphate coating off the lead (cathode). It must be an easier way than just scrubbing the lead sheet (3' x 2' approx) for few hours with steel wool!? Perhaps some kind of chemical, but not too dangerous like hydrofluoric for example! Anyone has an idea? Thanks, Virginie.
