Need chrome removal and Brushed Nickel finish on $500+ faucet

March 23, 2009

I have to replace an old faucet which is part of a kitchen set originally sold as "brushed nickel" finish. I have not being able to find an exact replacement so the closest I came style-wise is a good match (will blend nicely with the other pieces) BUT the finish is a very bright chrome.

Is there any way to strip, or brush, or sand, (or whatever) off the chrome finish and come as close as possible to brushed nickel.

I have heard stories that the right tools, technique and a lot of patience will "remove" the chrome polish leaving a brushed look from underneath. Question is, is the substrate material nickel or am I looking for trouble?

Any advice highly appreciated, especially if you can do it for a reasonable fee at your shop.

This is a $500+ faucet we are talking about.

Thank you in advance,
