Looking for Zinc Sheet Metal look alike for small table tops

Q. We have a restaurant/bar with a zinc bar top. we would like to "re cover" the small table tops with something that looks like Zinc sheet for countertops, etc. [affil links] but is easier to work with. We are two very handy women but don't know much about metal finishing.

A. Hi, Linda. See if you can find tin. Buy one sheet and see what you think. Tin has the advantage over most metals of being totally food-safe.

Dull metal for a shampoo backbar

Q. Hi,

I am looking for a metal, preferably a dull surface, tin look, that will not rust. The product will be used on a shampoo backbar and will get a lot of moisture.

A. Hi Jennifer. I googled 'shampoo backbar' and it seems to be a set of cabinetry. If that is the case, are you looking to cover such a set of cabinets with metal skins? Tin plated steel is available, although it's not cheap, and it's tricky to order because people tend to call sheet metal 'tin' even when it has nothing to do with the element tin. The tin plating itself won't rust although the underlying steel eventually might.

Aluminum sheet metal is inexpensive, not especially shiny, and won't rust -- maybe a better choice. Good luck.
