MIL-DTL-5541 Failing Humidity

January 21, 2009

I have a customer that is complaining about some test results for a clear chromated Mil-DTL-5541 [link is to spec at TechStreet] 6061-T6 bezel that we make. They are saying that after applying "60 degrees(C)and 95% humidity non-condensing", the part has a non-uniform dark grey corrosion. I spoke with our plater about this and they said that is normal and not a surprise at all.

Is clear chromate not inteneded to be tested this way?

Is there another similar conductive finish that would be a better alternative for my customer?

Thanks!
