Electrodeburring on SCM-440 Martensite

September 25, 2008

We're developing a fully CNC cog, and the material is SCM-440 with Martensite treatment.

Due to its complex geometry, CNC burrs are thick, tough and cannot be eliminated via tumbling or sandblasting. Especially, the tolerance is 30 microns max.

We are now considering electrodeburring or TEM.

I wanna know if it's possible to carry out electrodeburring process on SCM-440 to remove burrs without changing dimension significantly?

Please let me know if more information is required.

Many thanks!

Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
