Protecting Aluminum Anodize from High pH Environments

August 11, 2008

Currently some European countries use very high pH detergents in automated washers for medical devices because of concerns over prions (Mad Cow). Does anyone know of any transparent coatings or sealing processes that would protect a 6061-T6 anodize from this type of environment? This coating/seal would also have to be able to withstand autoclave (pressure/vacuum/290F), have decent wear characteristics, be applied under 400 F (for the T6), and be cosmetic (transparent preferably, but colorable if opaque).

Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
