Electro polishing for weld clean-up

June 17, 2008

We do in-house TIG welding on 304 SS, basically to join a 3/4" or 5/8" shaft with clevis which has various OD ranging from .71" to 1.25".
After welding the dis-coloration need to be removed and we use electropolishing, which works great for welded with low power input while on higher power input weldings the clean up is not acceptable.

Does any one has any idea what went wrong or better means of removing the dis-coloration?

Thanks a lot.
