How do I electroplate items at home?

March 23, 2008

I am a hobbyist wondering if someone could educate me so I can safely electroplate mechanical components against rust and corrosion.

Electroplating is more industrial science than handicraft, Edward. You can understand the electrochemical principles via our FAQs, but before buying any chemicals (beyond the vinegar and salt used in the Student FAQs) we would suggest that you get at least one good reference book about plating from our "must-have" book list. Good luck.
