Surface Marks on Aluminium Extrusion after ECM

March 3, 2008

Hi my name is Mike Walker, I work for an automotive supplier in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. I am enquiring about a problem that one of my suppliers is having with his Electro Chemical Deburring Process.
We are seeing a white patch within the finished bore of an extruded aluminium part. The patch is rough to the touch as if there is an acid etch reaction.
ECM is our only real option for deburring as the daily volume of components required is 2,000 pieces. The process has been running for more than 2 years with no problems until recently, can you suggest possible causes.
