Compare corrosion resistance of "Zinc Plate" and "Yellow Zinc Plate"

As a supplier of industrial parts, corrosion resistance is often questioned relative to standard Zinc Plating vs. Yellow Zinc Plating as usually found on the Higher (grade 8) series of fasteners. Is one superior for exterior applications?

What 'yellow zinc' means is simply that the chromate conversion coating on the zinc plating is yellow instead of clear. In the days before RoHS, yellow offered greater corrosion protection before white rust; but now color doesn't mean much. Zinc plating with yellow chromate or any other color really isn't thick enough to offer protection for long term exterior applications. For that you need galvanized fasteners.
