Removing surface rust from an automotive cam

2007

My daughter was given a cam for her vintage Camaro and stored it in the garage. Now it has surface rust. I've heard about using citric acid on eBay or Amazon [affil link] to remove the rust but I am
a) worried about damage to the surface, and
b)unable to find instructions on how to do this.
Can anyone help?

Try 5% ammonium citrate solution (50 gm citric acid /1 lit water+ pH must be 3,5/add some ammonia/). Only 5% citric acid can be used too. Hope it helps and good luck!
