How do I change brass fixtures to look like antique pewter?

I have a bedroom set that has brass handles. I just purchased a bed where the wood finish matched wonderfully, except that it has antique pewter as part of the bed. My nightstands and dresser have brass handles. I thought ok, I can change these out. I went to home depot and couldn't find one type of handle in two different sizes, which I need. So, I'm up for changing the handles that I have. I also read your comment as to make sure it is really brass. You said to check with a magnet, but you didn't say if the magnet sticks then its probably steel? The magnet does not stick to the handles so I'm still assuming that it is brass. I have seen online some antiquing pewter kits do you think that is what I need? I sure would appreciate your help.
