COLORLESS COATING

Is there anything which we can call colorless coating, I have a mild steel component which has natural looks or color of Mild steel and it's not catching any rust and there are no signs of any lacquer or trace of anti rust oil. How can we treat a mild steel component (dia. 40 mm,0.8 mm thickness) so it retains it natural color and does not catch rust.

The only thing you can do to beat nature is to play with it's laws. Rust is just one of the three different oxides that can form on top of iron. The other two are not reddish, spongy and loose. Rather, they can be black or blue, dense and adherent. If one of these is already present the first will not form. The factor here is the available oxygen and temperature during oxidation.
